Since 2004, New Colonies has been engaged in the long-term project of scoring Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow — page by page, passage by passage — translating the novel's paranoid geometries, rocket trajectories, and zone-wandering into sound.
The work progresses through the novel's four parts, each a distinct sonic territory. Field recordings, doom pop compositions, and electronic textures map the novel's geography of control and entropy.
Doom pop enters the world from rural Japan. What began as attenuated transmissions from the countryside has become a body of work that shadows the arc of Pynchon's parabola — from the screaming across the sky to the last delta-t.
